Laser hair removal faqs

Laser hair removal uses technology in which a beam of light is applied to unwanted hair on various parts of the body. This light is a specific wavelength that targets the melanin—the pigment in the hair that gives it colour—in the hair follicle. When the light enters the follicle, it is converted to heat energy that inactivates the follicle, preventing the hair from growing again.

There are three stages of hair growth. They are:

  • Anagen—active growth;
  • Catagen—a brief phase in which growth stops and resting begins, and
  • Telogen—a resting phase in which no further growth occurs.

In order for laser treatments to be effective, hair must be in the active growth stage—Anagen. Because individual hairs are at different stages of growth at any given time, multiple laser treatments are required to target all of them when they are in the Anagen stage.

Absolutely! When performed correctly by a certified, experienced laser technician, laser hair removal is both safe and effective.

However, it is a clinical procedure. As such, there is a potential for associated risks. Fortunately, they are minimal and seldom dangerous, particularly when the necessary precautions are taken.

As a professional laser hair-removal clinic, we will not perform any procedures without first assessing: your complete medical history, your current health condition, and any potential you may have for complications.

There are certain physical characteristics that make some people better candidates for laser hair removal than others. Specifically, we look at your skin tone and hair colour. Blonde and grey hair does not respond well to laser hair removal because of the lack of pigment in the hair follicle.

However, because of the advances in laser hair-removal technology, more people can now be treated successfully. During your complimentary consultation (see below), you and your technician will determine whether or not you are a good candidate for laser hair removal. Should you not be, the two of you can discuss other hair-removal alternatives.

We treat the following areas:

  • Face, including: ears, nose, upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, and neck. We do not recommend eyebrow shaping, however, we can treat the area between the eyebrows, or the “unibrow.”
  • Arms, including: underarms, forearms, upper arms, and shoulders.
  • Legs, including: the full leg, thighs, and lower leg Feet, including: the upper foot, and toes
  • Torso, including: the full back, upper back, chest, and abdomen
  • Pubic region, including: the bikini line, full Brazilian, Brazilian Buttocks.

The price for laser hair removal will vary depending upon the size of the area to be treated, and the amount of hair to be removed. We will give you a price quotation during your consultation.

No, it is not advisable.

It will remove the hair from the follicle, leaving no target for your next laser treatment. This may also disrupt the growth cycle of the hair and render your laser hair-removal treatments less effective. However, you may shave or trim hair between treatments, as neither will affect the growth cycle.

Most areas require six-to-eight treatments. Ideally, they should be four to six weeks apart. However, depending upon your skin tone, and hair colour and density, this may vary. Your technician will be able to provide you with a more precise estimate during your consultation.

Laser hair removal treatments are much quicker than you may expect. It takes around 20 minutes to perform treatment on underarms or the bikini area and only about an hour for areas like arms and legs.

Don’t expect to spend all day in the spa when having laser hair removal done – you’ll be in and out in no time.

WAXING faqs

If you have been shaving the area, wait at least 3 weeks before getting waxed; although, the longer the hair the better the waxing result. (Your hairs grow in different cycles so on your 2nd or 3rd consecutive wax all the hairs will be in the same growth cycle and you can expect some super smooth results!) If you have been waxing the area, wait at least 4 weeks before you have another wax to ensure the hairs are long enough.

Avoid excessive heat and sweating 24 hours before your wax and exfoliate the night before to lift dead skin to improve the results of your waxing.

Some clients find that taking a pain killer such as Tylenol 30 – 45 mins before your wax service can help reduce any discomfort.

Avoiding caffeine before a wax is also a good idea, caffeine is a stimulant and can increase your sensitivity.

You may also want to bring a fresh pair of underwear to wear after a French or Brazilian wax.

If you have pre-wax jitters there is a detailed blog on some practical things you can do to stay calm before and during your wax. Check it out HERE

Located conveniently between Coquitlam and Burnaby (All major credit and debit cards accepted)

Before a wax your hair needs to be at least a quarter of an inch – (eye lash length, or a grain of rice). The hair can never be too long to be waxed but if it is too short you will not get the best waxing results

Waxing peach fuzz on the body is pretty mild as this hair is usually softer. Leg hair can be a little stronger if you have been shaving, but again, this may just feel slightly uncomfortable. Underarm and bikini hairs are the stronger hairs. Although these areas may be more uncomfortable to wax than others, most clients are usually surprised at how little the pain is in comparison to what they are expecting. After your first Brazilian, the hairs will grow back thinner and softer, meaning that each wax gets a little easier. Your waxer will talk you through the process, ensure you feel at ease and will not do anything you do not feel comfortable with.

We have perfected a quick and efficient process with pain reducing techniques and our proud to deliver the best Brazilian waxes in the Lower Mainland. Conveniently located between Coquitlam and Burnaby.

Of course! Please just wear a tampon or a menstrual cup, or we will be unable to complete your service. Your wax will be performed as normal but please be aware you can be a little more sensitive just before, during and just after your cycle. Most ladies will book their wax just as their cycle has finished. Hello month of smoothness!!

The skin’s reaction after a wax can be slightly different for everyone depending on skin and hair type, but most people see the skin is slightly red and tender for 24 hours. This reaction is more common for first time waxers with years of shaving an area. As you wax more, the skin’s reaction lessens. If you are having a wax for a vacation or special event, it is best to schedule your wax 2-3 days before.

You need to give the skin 24 hours to calm down after a wax, ensuring you avoid heat, sweating, swimming pools and harsh chemicals and fragrances. After the warm wax has been applied, you need to avoid any further heat on the skin, saunas, steam rooms, cardio sessions etc.

We apply a soothing cream to the area after your wax but your follicles are still slightly open.

Sweating after waxing can cause bacteria to enter the follicles resulting in breakouts, so give the gym a day off! Particularly on the face, it’s tempting to touch your smooth hair-free upper lip immediately, but again, bacteria in open follicles can cause breakouts.

Leave the skin on the face free from makeup, sweating and products.

Immediately upon entering the studio will notice how clean the environment is and that we take our cleanliness seriously. Most importantly we follow a strict ‘No double-dipping Rule’

New medical grade nitrile gloves are used for each client’s wax. Every tool is also individually disinfected and sealed in a sterile pouch which is only opened when needed during your waxing. We are one of the few salons in the lower Mainland who are ‘Beauty Safe Certified’ to reassure customers that adherences to the best practices for safety and infection control are being followed.  (Administered by the ‘BeautyCouncil’ – Canada’s leading beauty industry association)

There are a lot of misconceptions about hard wax being less painful, more expensive, better for your skin, but here’s the low down:

Pain – Both types of wax remove hair from the root so unfortunately there isn’t much difference in how the wax feels.

Expense – Hard wax can cost a little more but we believe you should have the choice to use any wax you prefer. Unlike other salons, we do not charge more for hard wax. Got super sensitive skin or thick strong hair? That’s OK, you shouldn’t have to pay more for your wax!

Skin – Cream wax is sticky, the hairs stick into the wax and the wax sticks onto the strip. The stickiness means a dead layer of skin also comes off – only a very light exfoliating, not layers of skin leaving anything unnecessarily sore. Hard wax is not sticky. It sets and dries on the skin and turns into a plastic. It shrink wraps and ‘holds’ onto the hairs.

All of our products are perfect for sensitive skin. Our cream wax is the most popular, but if your hair is stronger and requires hard wax, your waxer will be happy to use this too.
